About Us - The Team

History

Nutrichef was founded in 2004 by the current executive directors, Barbara Cox, David Cox, Nigel Mason and Penny Mason. Together they have maintained their focus on building a company that prides itself in delivering its unique, pioneering, convenient and health-enhancing service to its customers, each and every day.

From the very early trials to the present day, the entire Nutrichef team have excelled in delivering a top quality, healthy meals delivery service to thousands of satisfied customers. We don’t say that lightly – the feedback we receive from our customers every day confirms it.

When we started in 2004, a local magazine published an article about us entitled ‘What do you get when you mix a nutritionist, a chef and a chauffeur?’. This was based on an unusual alliance of: Barbara our nutritionist, a salon culinaire gold medallist chef and a part-time wedding chauffeur who shared the deliveries with David.

We now have a large team of nutritionists, chefs, drivers and support staff, all of whom fulfil vital roles in ensuring we remain true to our business goals and to the Nutrichef ethos.

From our humble beginnings, we have grown significantly each year and we now deliver our healthy meals throughout most of the UK.

The Directors

Barbara Cox and David Cox
Barbara and David Cox became interested in healthy eating habits during an eight-year stay in Japan - a country with an abundance of delicious, healthy food and low rates of cancer, heart disease and obesity. Barbara began her studies in nutrition while living near Kyoto. At the same time she learned about fine cooking from a top Japanese restaurateur and cook with whom she traded English lessons.

After returning to the UK and qualifying as a nutritionist, Barbara made it her mission to devise a meal plan that would incorporate the beneficial characteristics of a Japanese diet, but appeal to Western tastes. At first she gave patients at her clinic some of her recipes, but, as many had difficulty sourcing ingredients, she decided to set up a company that would produce healthy meals and deliver them to people’s homes. And so the idea of Nutrichef was born.

In addition to her responsibilities as Managing Director of the company, Barbara is a health columnist and author. She is also an advisor on nutrition to schools, the media and people involved in a variety of different sports.

Barbara’s husband, David, also has a background in science. After graduating with a degree in biomedical sciences, he became a secondary school biology teacher. David is now Operations Director.

Nigel Mason and Penny Mason
Nigel and Penny Mason took part in the early trials of the healthy meal delivery service. They were so impressed with the transformation in their own health and the numerous other benefits, that they joined forces with Barbara and David to get the company off the ground.

Nigel has fulfilled numerous senior management roles for large corporations, international consultancy companies, and venture capital funded growth companies. Nigel’s background is in Project and Programme Management and he is currently responsible for the Finance and I.T. aspects of the business. In addition to those roles, he works closely with Barbara and David on company strategy and planning.

Penny also has an I.T. management background, having worked for one of the UK’s largest insurance companies for eighteen years. Penny is the Company Secretary and also plays an active role in the financial management.

Non-executive Directors
We also have two non-executive directors, Simon and Jenni Bowman who bring and extra dimension to the management team. They, too are based in Poole and are successful business people in their own right
