Barbara now Pan-African Heart Foundation Ambassador

Recently invited to become an Ambassador for The Pan-African Heart Foundation (PAHF) I attended the annual fund raising event in Nottingham over the weekend.  It was my first official engagement and an opportunity to meet the team who dedicate huge amounts of their time to supporting the organisation.

The Aims of the PAHF

1. To reverse Africa’s ‘brain drain’ by providing a sustained educational program to assist in the training of medical, nursing and allied staff to internationally recognised standards in collaboration with national and regional bodies

2. To raise public awareness of rheumatic heart disease through an educational program undertaken with local partners thereby reducing the existing burden

3. To raise public awareness of the forecast increase in coronary artery disease in sub-Saharan Africa

4. To establish long-term resource commitments from philanthropic bodies to support the aims and objectives of the Commission for Africa

5. To increase the provision of free or subsidised medical and surgical treatment for people with cardiovascular disease in Africa on an equitable basis

I first met Raj Jutley some years ago when we were working at the Porsche Human Performance centre at Silverstone.  We have since worked on several projects together and he has become a friend of Nutrichef and supporter of our ethos.  So Iwas honoured when he asked me to become an ambassador for his own charity.  Raj is a consultant cardiac surgeon in UK.  He was born and raised in Kenya before training in UK.  He founded Africa Heart Foundation in Sheffield in 2007 and Pan Africa Heart Foundation PANAHF in 2008.  He leads the charity mission’s surgical team and has an interest in developing cardiac surgery services in Africa and training of surgeons.

“When considering who we might invite to become ambassadors for the charity, I immediately thought of Barbara, her passion and dedication to her beliefs about healthy eating mirror mine for our cause.  She brings great energy to our meetings and I’m looking forward to taking Barbara out to Africa to show her our work at first hand.” enthuses Raj
When Raj asked me to work with the charity I jumped at the chance to be involved with an international organisation with such focussed aims and am excited to to learn more about their work at first hand.
