Healthy meal delivery company Nutrichef is celebrating after business leaders named its founder South West Entrepreneur of the Year.
British Chambers of Commerce bestowed the regional honour on Nutrichef’s Barbara Cox for the second year running after learning of the expansion of the company’s meal delivery channels as well as plans to diversify by selling its popular healthy flapjacks to health clubs and other outlets throughout the UK.
Nutrichef now delivers their delicious, healthy meals to customers in most parts of the UK. Meals comprise over 180 different ingredients (of which 70 are fruit and vegetables) across a one month plan. Customers include people who want to lose weight, those who want to eat more healthily and feel more energised, and athletes such as six-times British Mixed Martial Arts Champion Jeff Lawson. The company also has a number of celebrity clients including Kelly Osbourne, Vanessa Feltz and Andrew Castle.
Nutrichef was founded in Poole, Dorset in September 2004 by nutrition expert Barbara and her husband David. Barbara said: “It’s great that we won the regional award – now we are going for the national title. You plant all these seeds, watch them grow and now they are starting to flower.”
Barbara was inspired to create the Nutrichef diet after spending eight years in Japan. She was “struck by the delicious flavours and health-inducing properties of Japanese food” – as well as the country’s low levels of obesity, heart disease and cancer.
Barbara said: “I devised a meal plan that would incorporate the principles of the Japanese diet – like more fish and less red meat – but which would appeal to western tastes. We now have a range that includes dishes such as Thai Chicken Curry, Moroccan Tagine and - a little closer to home - Dorset Wheat-Free Pasty! All really delicious, low-fat meals that get customers feeling re-energised within days.”
Nutrichef will now compete against entrepreneurs from all over the UK at the national Chamber Awards 2008. Winners will be announced on November 27 at the Natural History Museum in London
